Bormio Pass

Bormio in winter

Bormio is rightly regarded as one of the most famous ski resorts at international level. Over the last few years, its fame has been consolidated by major sports events and in particular the Alpine World Ski Championships in 1985 and 2005 as well as many racing events in the World ski circuit.

Bormio free downhill along the Stelvio run is regarded as the champions’ race and one of the most technical, fast and spectacular routes of the entire White Circuit. Bormio, Kitzbuhel and Wengen are the essence of the speciality, the most popular events among the public of ski lovers at large and the most longed for and dreaded by the athletes who race down about 1,000 meters in about 2 minutes with breathtaking jumps, heart palpitation S bends and speeds over 130 km/h.

Going back to “ordinary” skiers, Bormio skiing area, on Mount Vallecetta side alone, offers over 50 km of runs with 1,800 m of skiing vertical drop, which go from the 3,000 plus meters of Cima Bianca to the 1,225 m. of the ski stadium in town and which is also very suitable for snowboard fans and adepts of the great telemark skiing. Its pistes will satisfy expert skiers but also provide excellent facilities for beginners. Besides Bormio main skiing slope, there are also the enchanting runs of “San Colombano” connected with the ski area of Valdicentro and, a few kilometers away, the ski area of Santa Caterina Valfurva and Livigno. An ultra-modern scheduled snowmaking plant, qualified professionals and excellent infrastructures guarantee top skiing conditions from the beginning of December to the end of April. Cross-country skiers can enjoy the tracks of the Alute di Bormio plain (lit during evening hours), the Viola route in Valdicentro and the challenging track of Santa Caterina Valfurva.

And also… the mountains around Bormio are particularly suitable for Alpine skiing and ice climbing; many excursions on snow rackets are available as well as sled dog racing along the flat panoramic "decauville" path. Last but not least, why not enjoy an evening’ ice skating in the ice rink or a thrilling tour on snowmobiles.
